Interstate 80

Valued at $10 million, the 2004 reconstruction of I-80 covered nearly four miles of interstate.  Over 80,000 tons of HMA went into the  full depth asphalt paving design.  This project won a Quality Management Award as well as a Quality in Construction Award, in 2004, from the National Asphalt Paving Association.

Did you know? To minimize the disruption of traffic flow, the IDOT stipulated that we only pave at night.  In order to ensure the safety of our employees and the public, every night began with a safety meeting.  Each employee on the crew wore special safety gear; this included American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Class 3 reflective vests and reflective leg bands.  This also meant fitting a 1,500-watt halogen light at each corner of the paver to ensure adequate lighting around the machine.
