Celebration Farms was a new design project, which means that the parking lot had to be designed from scratch.  Our work included base prep, 6″ & 8″ thick curb and gutter, and an HMA application for the parking lot surface.

We did a crack and seat to the existing PCC parking lot and placed Petromat fabric to help reduce reflective cracking.

There were a lot of thermal cracks due to a flexing base. We patched the cracks and placed a 3’’ overlay.

 Downtown Lot

The Downtown lot is the City of Cedar Rapids First porous asphalt lot.  The rain that falls on the lot flows through the pavement and can infiltrate into the sub-soil.  There is a rain garden/bioswale adjacent to the lot to handle the water from the standard asphalt portion of the lot.  Linn county Conservation Dept. was a big contributor to the design process of this site.

Rockwell Collins_Multi head pavement breaker 2 Rockwell Collins_during 5 Rockwell Collins_after 5 The Rockwell Collins Lot 12 parking lot was a Crack & Seat job covering 290,000 sq. feet of pavement.  We used a multi-head pavement breaker to crack the existing 6″ concrete, and completed the parking lot with a 3 1/2″ HMA* overlay.  We consider this a GREEN parking lot because the asphalt mix was created from recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) and recycled asphalt shingles (RAS).
