Meet the Executive Team
Brett Finnegan
President
Brett was hired in 1985 and through the years has served in many capacities. As Vice President, Brett managed the concrete and chip seal divisions and estimated projects in the Iowa City/Coralville area. In 2019, Brett was promoted to President.
Joel Gryp
Vice President
Joel has 20 years of experience in the asphalt industry as an estimator working on the Department of Transportation, county, and municipal road contracts for the Cedar Rapids/Marion area. Joel was promoted to Vice President in 2019.
Barry Rhinehart
General Manager
Barry has over 23 years of experience in the asphalt industry and has come a long way since his days as a shop laborer. Barry has spent the last eleven years serving as an Estimator for LL Pelling. In 2019, he was promoted to General Manager

LL Pelling is known as Eastern Iowa's premier asphalt paving contractor; you've probably seen our red trucks with the state of Iowa logo on the door. Many people are surprised to hear that we do so much more than asphalt. LL Pelling is a full-service asphalt contractor which means you can hire us to manage your project from site grading to asphalt paving and concrete curbs to line striping. We provide professional services to industrial, commercial, and municipal customers in the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City areas. We've been serving The Corridor and surrounding areas for 70 years, long enough to know what works and what doesn't. We maintain a large loyal customer base who value our expert knowledge, quality workmanship, and strong track record. Our History
Founded in 1948 by Lloyd Pelling Sr., the LL Pelling Company has a long history and reputation as one of Eastern Iowa's premier asphalt paving contractors. From our humble beginning in Williamsburg, Iowa we started out oiling roads as road surfaces began moving away from mud to gravel and eventually to pavements. In 1967, Lloyd Pelling Jr. became President and moved the business to Iowa City.
In 1968, Cedar Rapids Asphalt & Paving Company became a sister corporation of LL Pelling. In 1985, Russell Rhinehart and his partners Manatt's Inc. purchased the shares of LL Pelling from the founding Pelling family. In 1993, the Cedar Rapids Asphalt & Paving Company was dissolved, and all locations began operating as LL Pelling with offices in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. In 1995, our administrative offices, shop, and truck facility were relocated to North Liberty.
The company now operates asphalt plants in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and Marion. Today, LL Pelling continues to work in the chip seal business where it began but has expanded to include the following divisions: concrete, line striping, shingle recycling, asphalt paving, and asphalt sales.
